The North Port is a welcome addition to Perth’s culinary scene, a cosy restaurant characterised by dark wood, flickering candles and gleaming white plates. It’s what’s on those plates that’s responsible for The North Port’s meteoric rise however – food so good you’ll be talking about it for days afterwards. Andrew and Karen are the team behind the atmospheric restaurant, situated on a quaint cobbled street close to Perth Concert Hall. The magic is due, at least in part, to the quality of the ingredients, sourced locally, with small growers, breeders and foragers doing their bit to keep The North Port’s kitchen stocked. The restaurant is open Tuesday to Saturday for lunch, which is served from 12pm - 2:30pm, before opening again at 5pm, when its pre-theatre menu kicks in. The a la carte menu is available from 6:30pm. To start, try the haggis bon bons with honey mustard mayonnaise or the duck scotch egg with celeriac remoulade and truffle oil, an inventive take on a national favourite. Follow that with a main course that arrives still sizzling from the grill; the freshest sea bass or the juiciest steak. The flavours, like the setting, are simply divine.
